This new build development in Sutton for Barratt London consists of circa 800 residential units, an assisted living care home, supermarket, gym and commercial spaces with the aim of developing the UK’s first ‘truly sustainable suburb’.
Silver EMS’ appointment is for sitewide Building Services design to BSRIA Stage 4. This followed our provision of a decentralised energy options appraisal to support the planning phase for Barratt Homes.
The site wide decentralised energy system provides low carbon space heating and domestic hot water to the entire development. At the heart of the site is a Silver EMS-designed 3-storey Energy Centre which receives heat from the Sutton Decentralised Energy Network (SDEN). The SDEN system provides approximately 7MW of energy to the site boundary from a nearby Energy from Waste facility. This will be the primary heat supply resulting in improved Air Quality and a very low rate of carbon emissions. The Energy Centre is a highly-coordinated design containing 250m3 thermal storage to maximise low-carbon resource, and gas-boiler backup.
In addition to the decentralised energy systems we have provided site wide design and coordination for all phases and assisted in successful commissioning and handover of the heat network to the ESCO.
